Bitcoin DeFi Airdrops: Layers, Forks and Custody

The phrase “Bitcoin airdrop” can refer to a forked asset, a Bitcoin-linked layer, a wrapped token, a collectible ecosystem, a points program or a hosted-platform promotion. Identify the layer and custody model first.

Name the actual network

Determine where the asset exists, which explorer applies, what fee asset is required and whether a bridge or custodian stands between the token and native bitcoin.

Protect ownership proofs

A valid message-signing flow should never require a seed phrase or private key. Read the challenge text and verify the domain before proving control of an address.

Check hosted-platform policy

An exchange may control the snapshot address and choose whether to support a distribution. Customer balance alone does not guarantee a credit.

Inspect outputs and fees

For partially signed Bitcoin transactions or collectible mints, verify each output, the change address and the total fee before authorizing.

Evaluate wrapped-asset dependencies

List the bridge, custodian, destination-chain contract, protocol and oracle. The reward does not remove counterparty or smart-contract risk.
